Investigation into the introduction of a better effluent treatment technology using a dispersed bacteria treatment system

In developing countries, the prevalence of effluent treatment facilities in highly urbanized areas with public sewer systems is still very low and there are serious issues such as the malfunctioning of effluent treatment systems. Further problems include the limited supplies of products and information on effluent treatment and a lack of awareness about sanitation in such countries.
Hinode Sangyo Co., Ltd. carried out an “Investigation into the introduction of a better effluent treatment technology using a dispersed bacteria treatment system” mainly on Mindanao island in the Philippines, through Japan International Cooperation Agency’s support of small to medium-sized businesses and its SDGs business support operation.
We contribute to the mitigation of river and ocean pollution by installing effluent treatment facilities in areas where environmental pollution has become a serious problem. We also put emphasis on: improving the sanitation environment in hotels and commercial and public facilities; environmental education; and creating jobs.

ABE initiative

We participate in the African Business Education Initiative for Youth (the ABE initiative) in accordance with the action plan of the Yokohama Declaration 2013 adopted at Ticad 5 (the fifth Tokyo International Conference on African Development).
We also provided technical training in the technologies shown below, that Hinode Sangyo Co., Ltd. has developed since its foundation, to more than 30 trainees from 13 African countries in an internship program:

  1. Development and manufacturing of effluent treatment agents;
  2. Analysis of water quality / microorganisms;
  3. Manufacturing of microorganism agent for environment purification;
  4. 4. Planning, design, construction, and installation of effluent treatment facilities.

We will together examine the importance of the water environment and the necessity of sanitation infrastructure in African countries, Japan, and elsewhere in the world. Laboratory practice, study tours, collaboration with other companies through internships, the creation of action plans, etc., will also be carried out to study the needs and issues of each country and to establish business partnerships. This will bring about a liaison between Japanese companies and African nations and further contribute to the improvement of international society.

We are cooperating with the program of Yokohama City to support young people who are aiming to act globally.

We are cooperating with the fund of Yokohama City to support young people who are aiming to act globally. Yokohama set up this fund to benefit local young people, to broaden their views towards future activities.
The program supports high school students who live in Yokohama or attend school in Yokohama, and who wish to study abroad and become actively involved in global issues. It aims to help their personal growth and ability to contribute to international society in the future. It also aims to help them improve their communication capabilities, including better English proficiency, and to develop the ability to understand different cultures and senses of values in order to challenge the global stage.
We support the fund, and thus help active young people to create a better world.

Active participation of female employees and reform of work styles

To make our company a suitable and worthwhile place for all employees to work, we continue to commit ourselves to create a work-life balance in which everybody feels comfortable, finds it worthwhile to work, and can spend a lively time through such measures as eliminating gender bias.
We have adopted teleworking, flexible working hours. We support a healthy way of life, child care, and the acquisition of various qualifications.

Continuing collaboration among industry, government, and academia for mitigating ocean pollution

We continually carry out research and development activities for novel technologies in collaboration with universities, research institutions, other companies, and local governments, to contribute to environmental protection through water treatment technologies.
We address the marine environment problem of pollution by industrial waste water and crude oil with an effluent treatment technology, using a bacterium that dissolves various carbon hydrides.
We seek to find ecological solutions with which everybody can live a secure and healthy life; for example, a sludge treatment method using the Hinode Micro Bubbler (HMB) to treat farming effluent so as to prevent soil pollution of the area.
